just read from here

"For one thing, the internet cafes weren't the most cooperative. Most of us know that China blocks a lot of websites, like anything on Geocities or any Typepad blogs. Trying to access those pages directly from China yields the browser's "page not found" error. However, some of Tianjin's internet cafes have a kind of proprietary software installed that closes all open browser windows if there is any attempt to access a page on the blocked list. Let me tell you, that is really annoying! Sometimes you don't even know that the link you clicked on is blocked, and then suddenly your e-mail, news stories, etc. that you had open are all closed. Grrrr... Maybe this is becoming more common in internet cafes in China -- I haven't needed to use an internet cafe in a while -- but it's the first time that I've seen it."

- wouldn't that SUCK or what. glad i don't need to use any chinese internet cafe.

Korea also blocks TypePad and LiveJournal. They\'ve had Blogspot blocked off for a few weeks, but every few days they\'ll unblock it (go figure).

I\'ve had to use Unipeak to get around the stupid blocks 8)

i think she\'s going back to taiwan right? not exactly china by many\'s definition. plus it\'s a democratic country. these kinds of things tend not to happen too often. actually i\'m pretty sure internet censorship is kept at minimal there. perhaps some censorship on porn but i doubt it.

China\'s not even truly socialist anymore; why do they care?

I don\'t think the same rules apply in Hong Kong, though (maybe not in Taiwan, then, either).

actually i\'ve done research on internet censorship in china. hk does not get affected by it as far as i know. i\'ve asked my visiting professor from HK. taiwan is of course under a completely different gov\'t so it\'s not the affected area either.

I\'ve read some articles online about some websites being blocked in China. Do you know if it\'s everywhere in China? I\'ll be going to Shanghai soon and spending my next 4 years studying at TonJi University. i cannot live without internet.
I\'ve seen your zhongwen entries. You write chinese so well.
