the story just amuses me... jobs in china.......

"I went to a job interview today. According to their ad on newspaper, the restaurant is looking for waitresses who have basic English skills, and the month salary would be 1800RMB. I got interested by the salary; 1800RBM is a lot for a waitress job, so I went there this afternoon.

It took me one hour to get there from home. On the way I was thinking if I took the job, I'd spend two hours on bus every day. Their manager, a 30 something man interviewed me. Pretty simple, I filled in a form and he asked me several questions. When he asked me if I can work hard, I answered yes of course. Then he asked if I got any idea how hard the work would be like, I said not really.

''OK, our working time is from 9:00am to 9:00pm(at least), 12 hours a day, and 6 days a week.'' He explained.

Wow, that's very long, plus 2 hours on the bus, I'll be busy from 8am--10pm. ''Do I have other holidays?'' I asked.

''No, you won't have any other holidays besides one day off every week. And sometimes you need to work more than 12 hours. That's how our business's like, most restaurants are all like this. Do you still think you can work hard?'

I said yes but I was thinking ''NO WAY.'' And how about labor rights and minimum wage stuff? But I guess many people who come from countryside are will to take the jobs no matter how unfair they are.

During our conversations, I mentioned I'm good at communicating with people, and he responded, ''Well, I think your personality is too strong. We don't really need that. Good communication skill isn't necessary either. So to speak our work is machinery, we need people who can listen to us and do what we tell them to do. And for beginners, the salary starts from 800RMB per month.'' In the end he said he'd call me if I got accepted.

After I left his office, I saw a waiters' meeting outside. All the waiters and waitresses were standing in front of the restaurant. Another manager was shouting to them, ''I love my job!''
''I love my job!'' They followed.
''I can work hard!''
''I can work hard!''
''Customer is our God!'
''Customer is our God!'' These young waiters were saying the words as loud as they could.
......
Right after job-loving manifesto, they started to clap together with big smiles on their faces. I've seen meetings like that, now many restaurants do it as a routine every day, but the whole thing is still quite amusing to me. I don't think I'll ever get their phone call; even I do, I won't take it. Working 12 hours a day, 6 days week sounds terrifying. I'm not that desperate for a job, not yet."

The Phantom Restroom Phenomenon has been solved!! I noticed that I smelled a fresh scent shortly after I heard the sound, and I was sitting in a different stall than usual. I looked around and hiding up by an intercom speaker is an automatic air freshener that sprays a charge which sounds like a soda bottle opening. Ha ha ha ha.

it's jay playing piano and singing with his gf patty hou. anyway the girl doesn't sing very well (is off the tune quite a few places) but is very cute. so i guess it's worth a watch. only. 5.15mb :)

i have to say these two cds are pretty good. i just downloaded them all and have been listening to it.. it contains quite a few songs that fit my taste.

saw this on my board and i tried it out. you can really tell a difference in the loading speed of firefox! not sure what the drawback is. if you do, please share.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
